Attitudes That Make or Break Us –

Introduction

Great coaches and competitors preach one truth more than any other – attitude is (Everything            )! The Bible says, As a man think, so is he (Proverbs 23:7a).  What do we believe about life? Blessings? Are we helping others to be blessed? Are we excited to see others do well?

Having trouble in our lives is no excuse for a (rotten           ) attitude (speaking           ) and having trouble with others shouldn’t make us act less than we are                                      (     it often does but it shouldn’t           ).  Do we focus on our circumstances or our Christ promises?

Truth #1 –  We will never go far, thinking and speaking negatively about everybody and everything – James 3:1-14; 2 Cor. 2:14 (triumph      ) Grasshopper mentality persons always have a (low     ) flight.

Why did the children of Israel say they looked like grasshoppers?

?  They were old, but not necessarily mature/mentality was wack!

?  They had been beaten down and told they were no good from birth,

?  So they couldn’t see anything else.

Truth #2 – Challenges reveals our real (attitude        ).  When we are faced with difficulties we discover our real heart.  Hard times don’t make character, they reveal it.  Whatever attitude possesses us will take us some place. Why does God endure us being checked by life?

1 Peter 5:6-7 so we can be (humbled        ) to be exalted; and learn who to put the our weight on.  Life is too short to have a bad attitude.

Daniel 3:17 – so we can find it if we’re really for (God       ) (Isaiah 54:14)

Romans 12:1,2  – so we can be (transformed          ), not conformed.

1 Kings 17 – so we can grow up; (mature and move on          )

Truth #3 – Attitude reveals who we really (trust         ).  David in 1 Samuel 17:32 says no matter how big the giant; I will go…David didn’t complain, David trusted in God… How we (handle          ) things and what we say has much to do with who we trust – Psalm 23.  We may not be able to handle prosperity because we’d trust money and not the master.

Truth #4 – We cannot (control       ) the way people treat us, but we can control the way we treat them. Sometimes Gal. 6:7 is in effect, (we get from others what we give to others      ).

Phil. 2:5  – Let this mind be in you….Christ Jesus! There has to be a sincere desire to be different from the inside out.  New things won’t do it, etc.  How? Phil. 3:13,14

Before we speak filter our thoughts through the word of God – Heb. 4:12

DON’T FORGET TO LIVE

Words to live by. We must stop and enjoy life. I was Dying… First I was dying to finish high school and start college. And then I was dying to finish college and start working. And then I was dying to marry and have children. And then I was dying for my children to grow old enough for school so I could go back to work. And then I was dying to retire. And now I am dying…And suddenly I realized I forgot to live. “Lord, remind me how brief my time on earth will be” Remind me that my days are numbered, and that my life is fleeing away. My life no longer than the width of my hand. An entire lifetime is just a moment to you; human existence is but a breath.
