What We Live By?
Matthew 4:4
4 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.
Jesus makes clear in His conversation with the Devil that there are several things we cannot live on – we are able to (exist ) on them for a while, but never lives on.
We can exist on air food and water just as animals can, but we must have more than bread to ( satisfy ) and be creative and constructive.
We cannot live by ( material things ) alone. Money, houses, land, and things are fine but we only exist with these and do not live.
The text says Jesus was in the (wilderness ). It is in the wilderness, we define
- Our ( identity ) – Who will I Be?
- Our ( priorities ) – What will I do?
To live great in the sight of God, what do we need to live by?
First, Live by ( affection ). Live a life that helps others know that they are important and (wanted ) by God.
Second, live a life of ( forgiveness ). No person is perfect enough nor good enough not to need the forgiveness of God and therefore we are obligated to forgive and also to ask for forgiveness. All of us are mere sinners, saved by grace.
Third, Live by the ( grace ) of God. Remember in 2014 that we are the benefactors of blessings that we didn’t deserve. We have all received some good things we didn’t deserve.
Fourth, live a life of ( Faith ) this year. Have faith in God and have faith in yourself. Faith to believe that we can develop into useful men and women for the Master’s work. The greatest damage caused by slavery and segregation was that a millions of us believe that we are still nobodies and live satisfied with hopelessness and despair that shows in our inabilities to achieve and accomplish goals. Believe and work to make things better – Believe in God. If we are not trusting God, we are just tripping.
Fifth, live a life of ( cooperation ). No one makes it on their own; we are connected – interwoven, intertwined and interlaced. Thusly, we can rise together or die apart.
Sixth, live a life of your ( Dreams ). Goals are important. We are what we dream of… we are what we aspire to become. “It must be borne in mind, that the tragedy of life does not lie in not reaching our goal. The tragedy lies in having no goal to reach…not failure, but low aim is the sin.
