Committing To Make The Change

Nehemiah 4:6 1Peter 2:9

We live in a (uncommitted       ) society. Everyone agrees that change is needed, but very few people are willing to pay the (price   ) of Change-which is commitment. Why?

  1. We (fear    ) being committed.
  2. We are prone to be (selfish      ). Chuck Swindoll calls this  “the do-your-own-thing syndrome.”
  3. We are caught up in how the world (thinks     ).
  4. We do not fully recognize or live out our Christian (identity     ) and responsibility.
  5. We do not like it when (demands      ), standard or expectations are placed upon us.

What are We Committed to?

  1. (Ease      ) of our lifestyle
  2. Health, wealth
  3. The (wrong      ) things in lifestyle
  4. Being a serious Christian is too high a (cost      )
  5. Taking care of (ourselves      )

What makes all these so sad – is that when we push these things we leave no (room       ) in our lives for a commitment to God.

Biblical Commitment

Commitment in the Bible is used 6 different ways:

To Vow

To Pledge

To (Decide       )

To Swear

To (Choose      )

To (Promise      )

These are all (action         ) words – Psalm 37:5

Application

Nehemiah 4:6 –

  • There was a (goal/objective      )
  • There were basic (resources       )
  • There were leaders is (position     )
  • There were directions (given      )
  • There were distractions

1Peter 2:9 –

(Chosen      ) generation that shows forth the praises of the God who brought them out

  1. Have we made the kind of commitment to God, and Greater Galilee ministry that would prove 1Peter 2:9 – Why? Why not?
  2. Are our commitments reflecting our priorities?

Are our commitments praiseworthy or would God be ashamed of us and our behavior?
